Is there a way to display PDF images with canvas? I do not see this in my manual.

Have you seen https://wiki.tcl-lang.org/page/MuPdfWidget ? Haven't used it myself but if it is a full fledged widget, you should be able to display it on a canvas. It requires the tclMuPdf binary extension though.
