EDWIN - Does not load buffer with existing file

I am unable to get EDWIN to load an existing .scm file into a buffer
for editing using 'C-x C-f'. The file appears in the buffer list with
a size of 0 (zero) and no data is displayed. However, if I enter data
into the buffer and save it with 'C-x C-s' the original data is
overwritten on the file. It is NOT noted as a new file when the load
is attempted so I assume the named file was found. I am using Scheme
Release 9.1 and Edwin 3.116 on a Windows 7 machine. Any light that
can be thrown on this would be appreciated....
