Is there a downloadable tutorial for OREXX? I have the Warp 4 FP14 version
and have ordered the Win 2.1 Devl Edition but PC Connection has a 2-4 week
delivery(?) so am still waiting. I'd like to get a jump on using it.
I've written a lot of tradtional Rexx, but need to port a system from OS2
to the other one and thought it might be a good time to learn something
about OREXX. I see that RXSOCK and RXFTP are both available for the other
platform and I am using both of those under Warp.

TIA, GWB

You need to get a copy of Object Rexx by Example - which you can pick up
at the RexxLA Symposium directly from the authors.

IBM's Red Book on ORexx is all right as well. There is both an OS/2 and
Win32 version - I've only ever seen the OS/2 version. IBM did not
publish it in PDF format at the Red Book web site.

Check out the tutorials at the ORexx home page at IBM.

And for a personal plug you can check out my Object CUR library which is
a bunch of ORexx classes to do all sorts of things. It is at our web
site in the Solutions area. www.lueckdatasystems.com

Don't know about a downloadable version but there is a book by that name.
Don't have the URL handy, sorry.

I'm afraid to say that John & Gwen (authors of Object Rexx by Example)
will not be able to come this year. However, following a recent
telephone conversation with John, he sent me 5 copies of their book
which will be "available" at the Symposium. Not only their book will
be available, but the following PRINTED publications will also be
available.

2 Completes sets of the IBM Object Rexx 2.1 for Windows manuals (don't
do like I did and use 4 reams of paper to print out the PDF).

A Complete set of the IBM Object Rexx 2.1 for AIX manuals

A copy of Down To Earth Rexx, the follow up to Learn Rexx in 21 Days.

The Rexx Language by Mike Cowlishaw

PLUS a whole lot of other very nice "prizes". These will not be door
prizes! You'll have to "earn" them. Learn more at the Banquet.

I'll wait for the movie to come out on this one. I've got the Windows
version and have made several serious attempts to glean some
information from it, but my interest dies after about 30 minutes of
the "Car Dealership" dialog. Just note the style of manual I like.

Thanks for all the input. I actually have the Red Book and thought I was
the only one that couldn't stay awake for all the chatter between the 'car
dealership' developers.

I also have Thomas Enders book, 'Object-Oriented Programming with Rexx'

I think the ORexx by Example might be what I am looking for. I'm just not
getting the syntax, I read the sample code, then run it in a REXXTRY window
to see what the execution sequence might be, but the class definitions work
like compiler directives so I don't see them anyhow.

Thanks for the responses
GWB
