Well, I really didn't want to post much more about the book until
it comes out, but I need to correct a few minor things in Aaron's
post. Apologies if you've seen this info already.

1) The O'Reilly Python book's home page (for information and sales):

http://www.ora.com/www/item/python.html

It includes a link to my home page for other book info -- contents,
updates, etc. The URL: "http://www.ora.com" gets to anything else
related to O'Reilly: corporate and international sales, book-related
merchandise, catalog, etc.

2) The current publishing information:

PROGRAMMING PYTHON
Object-Oriented Scripting
By Mark Lutz
O'Reilly & Associates

1st Edition September 1996 (est.)
ISBN: 1-56592-197-6
900 pages (est.), includes CD-ROM, $39.95 (est.)

We're currently shooting more at a mid September release, but that
depends on how fast some last-minute production tweaks can be done.
FWIW, I've seen the nearly-final copy, and we're very close now.

Think "xmas in September" :-),

Look again -- they do list it (of course, they got all the info wrong
too :-). FWIW, I wouldn't recommend this web site for accurate details
on my book; use the ora.com site I posted earlier.

Sorry, Mark, for all the wrong information... it really wasn't on purpose.
The search engine has a bad user interface, and I should have tried
"Lutz, Mark"
in place of
"Mark Lutz"

Too bad they aren't using Python there, apparently. -- Aaron

Sorry -- nothing official that I can relay here. I could make a
reasonable guess, but it would probably be wrong :-). The best I
can do is say somewhere in the area of a month, +/- some constant...

As soon as the release date becomes more solid, I'll pass it along.
And O'Reilly may be announcing dates too. But if you need to know
earlier, you can try emailing or calling O'Reilly; see www.ora.com.

But it's coming gang... I've seen it! :-).

I would suggest that everyone who wants one of the Python books should
order it from his/her local computer book store rather than from an on-line
service. That will show up on someone's computer screen, and will
encourage book stores to stock the book.

Did I read correctly, "books", i.e. plural? I know about the
O'Reilly book by Mark Lutz, but that was just one volume if I
remember correctly...

Konrad,

didn't you notice that Jim and Aaron Watters have written a book
called "Internet programming in Python", for MIS/Press, to be
published in September. Check dejanews for Aaron's original
announcement (and www.ora.com for details on Mark's book).

ahem: henry holt, pub, isbn 1-55851-484-8

thanks nick, but it was me, Guido, and Jim (although I happily
take responsibility for all errors, since I was the primary and final
decision maker). Not to be apologetic: I'm kinda pleased with it,
actually ;-).

And for now you can just call me...
