Is the php install for xp/apache supposed to build the extensions folder and
populate it? If so, and mine didn't do this, what does it indicate? (phpinfo
runs fine).

The installer is stupid. It doesn't come with all the extensions. Get the
zip file instead.

The extentions I belive should be there, but you need to edit the
php.ini file to enable the extensions you need, only a few are enabled
by default.

Try...

http://web.torres.ws/dev/php

It tells you all about imstalling PHP on windows *without* the installer and
make it work the first time. IT even has a link to other extensions for PHP
if you wish.

HOpe it helps.
