My technical staffing agency is in the process of updating our recruiting
procedures. When we do a technical evaluation over the phone, we like to
ask between five and ten questions on the skill we are recruiting for. If
anyone has access to some good Perl questions that we can use for our
telephone screening, it would be greatly appreciated. I figured this might
be a good place to ask. We're looking for questions that range from
intermediate to advanced. Please supply the answers as well. Multiple
choice is probably the best format if available.

We need questions for for Java, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Visual C++, C++,
PowerBuilder, SQL, Java, JavaScript, CGI, SQL Server, Cobol, RPG, IIS, etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

1. A programmers best friend is:
> Matt Wright.
@ A hairdryer.
+ A MOTAS giving oral sex.
* The manual.

2. The difference between Perl and CGI is:
* CGI is an interface between an HTTP server and a program it execs.
+ Who cares, you cannot have sex with either of them.
@ What is ICG?
> They are the same, aren't they?

3. The reason you learned Perl is:
@ Perl is hard!
* Perl is a the Swiss Army Chainsaw of programming language. No
computer McGyver should be without it!
> Money.
+ To get laid.

4. The main reason you use Perl is:
+ Impress chicks (studs).
@ More time for shopping!
* Its string handling capabilities, CPAN, rapid prototyping,
flexibility, and Perl golf.
> It's great for cut-and-paste programming.

5. Compared to your non-computer possessions, what does Perl match?
@ My nail polish.
> My cheque book.
+ My right hand.
* It's unmatched.

Write down the symbols in front of each answer you gave. Group them
and see which category got the most answers. If you answered mostly:

@ You are Barbie.
* You are a nerd.
+ You are honest.
> You are hired.

I have some general questions that I have collected over the years.
While these are obviously not language specific, I find then VERY useful
for weeding out the programmer wanna-be's. Any REAL programmer will
overcome technical issues easily given access to resources like the
Internet.

I hope that these help. Feel free to contact me if you want help with
Java questions. That's really my main area, I'm just a Perl wanna-be!
:-)

Blessings,

Simon
