Hey gang!

I'm relatively new at the programming scheme of things and really don't knwow
here to begin with pascal.

I have Borland Pascal 7.0 w/ Object (Dos/Win). And I am slowly starting with
the manuals. Is there, and if so a title and author, a book that helps one
get started builind libraires, or a good reference to start from?

Thanks for the help.

The manuals are not really meant as a tutorial, but rather as a
reference, to look stuff up you already know. For that they are quite
good, but if you don't know Pascal in the first place, they're not much help.

I must have collected about 20 books on Pascal over the years; I started
learning it before Turbo Pascal came out (and btw if you want to really
appreciate Turbo Pascal, learn UCSD Pascal first! It's the difference
between a bicycle and a Lamborghini!)

My very favorite book on Pascal is Mastering Turbo Pascal 5.5 (or 6.0) by
Tom Swan, published by Sams. It isn't about the latest version, but the
differences are relatively minor and you can learn about them from the
manuals. This book starts from square one, yet it is so complete that I
keep it on my desk at work. I have Tom Swan's book on Borland C too, and
it's just as good.

Of course, if you have questions, bring 'em here. 8^)

I'm not quite sure what you're looking for, or what you
mean by "building libraries"? Do you mean a library of books
about programming? Or a library of code?
Anyway, if you're completely unfamiliar with Pascal,
I recommend a book "Teach Yourself Pascal" by Mark Goodwin.
This is a basic, step-by-step introduction to the language,
and to programming in general.
I also use "Turbo Pascal 7" by O'Brien and Nameroff.
I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know Pascal, but it's
reasonable for someone who knows Pascal but is trying to
navigate the features of TP7, such as the object oriented
programming.
I also have "Mastering Turbo Pascal 6" by Tom Swan.
It does seem like a good introduction for new people.
I don't use it because it doesn't cover Object Windows.
