I am a small solo developer and still have Delphi 4 Pro I bought off
Ebay (D4 Standard previously) which I use to write freeware and other
apps, but I pine for the days when Borland had resasonable priced
software. Is there any chance down hte track that Borland will release
a Standard Edition, or a Pro Edition that doen't cost an arm and a
leg???

i have the same advice about the price of delphi products.
i sell my Delphi 4 because it is too old, most of thirs party libs
do not support it. there is no personnal edition for D8 or D9,
and even for personal development a database is mandatory.
pirated version for D7 or D2005 can be find on the net.
i have installed lazarus, not perfect but is is the only
solution.
