Good books or resources for resizable sidebar ?

I have a complex problem where I am trying to serve a geo map inside
of an iframe and have a sidebar that can appear and dissapear and be
re sizable. Alot of the stuff I have figured out with calls between
iframes and all. The resizable sidebar seems more complex. I had a
problem with a recommended approach to using j-query which was
something like this: http://jqueryui.com/demos/resizable/ . Basically
it moved the iframe behind my sidebar when I tried to click on it.

I then found this which I have had better luck with
http://www.blueshoes.org/en/javascript/resizegrip/ , but it uses an
image inside of the box to resize instead of the edge of the sidebar
and there is alot of code involved with the whole thing.

I'm not sure if there are any books or tutorials that would cover
this type of thing to help me get a better understanding of how it all
works so I could do a better job of it.
