It is just a String so:

1.80_nnn
1.80_nnnn
1.80_nnnnn
...

:-)

March 2017 is the latest ETA I believe.

Well, currently there's nothing after the 91/92. I would think adding _nn after the string would only be for minor patches. I don't think they've had more than 99 updates for one Java version before. If they name it 1.8.0_100 that should annoy some people since "100" < "90".

Java 8 has been out for many months. I thought the schedule was one major version per year.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tzdata-versions-138805.html
lists 1.6.0_115 and 1.7.0_101 for customers willing to pay BIG $$$.
And https://jdk8.java.net/download.html offers 1.8.0_102-b03 early
access build.

Ah the big money builds. I just use free Java, which requires you to use new major versions, and I don't recall seeing > 99. If they've used 100+ on the extended Java, where you can pay them to support a single major version, it seems they're soon going to make a 100+ for the free updates. This seems short sighted. If they want to put out so 100+ minor versions, the current version 92 should be 1.8.0_092, so when they get to 1.8.0_102 it will still sort correctly alphabetically.

I don't think that will hold them back. It did not prevent them from
going 1.8.0_5 to 1.8.0_11.

I think it was one every other year.

Java 8 came out in 2014.

Java 9 was originally planned for 2016. But it got postponed to 2017.

Not the first big IT project to get delayed.

Hmm. Actually it may have been 1.8.0_05.

I know that they went from 8u5 to 8u11, but that does not really
say anything about the 1.8.0_* numbering.

Mea culpa.

In fact the documentation state nn.

Makeing all the string sorters happy.

But I guess the age:61 cannot be fixed,
towards age:99 there will EoPU or something.
