Hi,

I'm in a stage of choosing language and tools for developing eCommerce web site.
Currently I am thinking about using servlet + FreeMarker + dbcp +...

I will appreciate any opinion or links regarding the following points:

1. Up-to-date performance comparison between servlets, PHP, perl etc.
2. FreeMarker vs Velocity (FreeMarker will be excluded from the next
version of Turbine, is it a political or technical decision).
3. Performance comparison between verious template engines and frameworks.
4. Is there any light weight servlet framwrk that is commonly used?

Thanks,
Yaniv.

:-)

That is indeed an interesting question. :-) I have an opinion about
this, but really, I guess you'd have to ask the Turbine developers
what the basis of this decision was.

Now, I guess I'm not in a position to offer objective opinions about
FreeMarker vs. Velocity, but really, if you look at the two things, do
you think that a decision to drop all support for FreeMarker in favor
of Velocity could *possibly* be *technically* based???

I really doubt it's an issue. All of them are more than fast enough
probably. If you use a database, that will be what takes the most
time. I am convinced that FreeMarker could render pages 10 times
slower than it does, and most people using it in the servlet space
would not even notice.
