fellow java folks:

I'm starting a project that is mostly database maintenance
and reporting type routines - we are hoping to use JBuilder2
to create EJBs for the business objects - we will be doing
bean-managed persistence, RMI/IIOP, both session and entity
beans. We are looking for EJB server, container, deployment
and management software. We know about Tengah from WebLogic
(since I think it's the only one shipping), we think that
Inprise will have AppServer out (and that it does what we
hope...). IBM's Component Broker software is not shipping
yet, I believe.

Is there anyone out there doing EJB or putting together
proof-of-concept type applications yet. If so what software
should I be looking at for the container/server side of
things.

Also, any tips on good report generation beans etc. would be
great!

I've found http://www.ejbhome.com/ pretty informative (given that it's
early days for EJB). They have a proof-of-concept EJB server for
download. Also I think the tutorial by Nova Laboratories is very good,
http://www.nova-labs.com/.

Also have a look at GemStone's offering, known as GemStone/J.
You can find them at www.gemstone.com (unsurprisingly).

GemStone/J is not Ejb as far as I know. However, GemStone is about to
provide a beta release of Chile which is their first Ejb implementation.
That is one of our choices as we have identified the need (or convenience)
of an OODBMS in an application. We have a graph of 4 or 5 business objects
and I would not like to map that into relational tables. I am trying
WebLogic and some OODBMSs like Versant, Objectivity and ODI's PSE.
Currently, in WebLogic I have to use Bean-Managed persistence to be able to
use any OODBMS. Container-Managed persistence is only available with files
and JDBC access (to relational DBs).

By the way, I am having some problems trying to do that. Has anybody tried
already any Ejb (say WebLogic) with any OODBMS? Any hint you can give would
be very much appreciated,

Hope it helps & thanks
