MAC help?

I'm clueless about MACs.

I wrote a small program for a friend and he has a MAC desktop of some
sort. I don't know how to tell him to install it or run it. Can
anybody give me some generic instructions? The program has to have
access to a directory in the same directory as the program and it needs
to have a working FTP server running on the machine that can put files
in the same directory. Is that doable on a MAC? Amy idea of what Java
version is available?

Java on Mac OS X depends on the OS version. Version 10.7 (Lion) is
current, but I haven't tried it:

To verify, have your friend click on the Apple menu and choose About
This Mac.
