I'm developing a Java app which will need to be installed by a
non-computer expert at severla remote locations (commercial). I've
dug around and am looking for either a free/cheap installer for Java
based apps or some decent documentation on how to fire up ActiveSync
to do the job for me (google searches get blogged out by comments on
eVB/.NET CF).
Does anyone have any advice as to a suitable solution?
Thanks, in advance for you help.
Cheers,
Neil

For $500, you get about the same functionality that InstallAnywhere
charges $1200 for.

Just bumped into that link for InstallAnywhere just the other day by
accident. I have not used yet to compare against the free ones I am
toying/using now.
Link 'InstallAnywhere Downloads:' http://www.zerog.com/downloads_01.shtml
I first looked for free version of 'InstallAnywhere' a few months ago
but did not find it. I ended up looking at and working with two FREE
ONES. They have both have the functionally you would need. I like
'IzPack' because it is platform independent. If I only had to deploy on
windows I might look at 'Inno Setup' a little closer. Here are the
free-ones:
*IzPack* http://www.izforge.com/izpack/http://www.izforge.com/izpack/
Main features

Uses the maximum Jar archives compression level
Jakarta Ant integration
Great flexibility and modularity, it is very easy to extend IzPack
No native code is required, but you can extend IzPack with native code

Flexible and powerful user input panel
Automatic uninstaller creation
Easy localization with XML langpacks: 16 langpacks are provided by default

online distribution. Disk spanning is also supported.
