jakarta commons-net telnet - how to send break?

i am learning the jakarta common-net telnet api. i can talk to my server
via the java program, but i need to send a control character (a break) to
the server. does anybody have a code snip showing how to do it? all that
happens in my program is that the numeric value is sent - the server doesn't
seem to recognize the break character. thanks!
