Hi Mark, wish you a very happy 2010. Hope Shen get ported to Lisp
and clojure. Nice view from your window, what about your reflections
and meditations in India?
and meditations.
Generally conditions in India are extremely hard. I would summarise
India as a very tough country populated by very nice people. My vague
dreams of living there pretty much disappeared; too much pollution in
the cities; water unsafe to drink and food to be treated with
caution. But Indians teated me with great hospitality and kindness.
During my stay, I managed to help record a TV documentary on hair loss
(I was the voice over). India is full of these surprises.
The chief interest of India is for me the ancient vedic traditions
including yoga. But the Eastern mind is very different from the
Western and their philosophy would be alien to a Western scientist.
During my time at the ashram I was trying to get to the root of these
differences. They are, IMO, rooted in epistemology; you can read my
take here - which is excerpted from a work in progress.
