Hello,

IIRC, Cray already has one. (I'm not certain,
because my workstation is a Mac, not a Cray. ;-) )

IBM is in the last lap, and likely will release
sometime this year.

More important to me is when compilers support coarrays,
as Cray and g95 already do. Parallel hardware is here today,
and using it effectively means more to me than
object-oriented programming.

There's a parallel Fortran compiler for the nVidia GPU.
I hear NASA was buying Playstations model Threes to get the chips to
achieve the number crushing power they need.
Of course, nVidia also makes serious teraflop shoebox units for the
scientific modelers and universities, but it's similar kind of
hardware.

I'm reminded of when Don Lancaster took an Atari-type cpu device and
attached it to his Television, and suddenly everybody wanted monitors,
and some people moved the cars out of the garages...

So I'm waiting to see a hobbyist home-build electronic kit magazine
article show you how to take apart a playstation, connect an lcd
monitor and keyboard and the future is here again... :o)>

I know kids at MIT were doing this shortly after the PS3 release.
Google will turn up plenty of stuff on how to install *nix on a PS3.
But the consoles don't have a lot of RAM and aren't well-suited to
many scientific applications. For this reason you'll find IBM selling
servers with Cell processors and RHEL installed, and you can even buy
a PS3 cluster with YDEL from Fixstars (http://us.fixstars.com/).

The problem isn't that no one knows how to accelerate problems with
Cell processors or PS3 consoles -- it's that this only works for a
limited number of scientific applications. It's not the solution to
every problem.

I was told there was essentially no limit to the memory you can add,
if you supply enough amps for it. Anyway the really really powerful
units (teraflops and teragigs) are only about the price of an upper-
range car. And people buy cars to park in garages...
