Dunno how, and I haven't switched over yet.

But you could always use a dedicated newsreader (or the one built-in
to Opera) and direct yourself to Eternal September or similar free
news host. E.g. for some reason (more spam than users?), Google Groups
stopped forwarding to the openwatcom.* groups, so I have to use Opera
to contact them directly. I haven't bothered with trying others yet
because GG hasn't forced me (though it keeps warning).

I haven't switched over yet.

But I have a theory:

Times have changed. Now software is written by Newbees - by people who
didn't grow up from ground zero. Now software is written by people who
only have been taught how to write software. They don't have the
experience we Oldies have.

What these Newbee-Programmers are doing is writing software where the
highest goal is to look pretty. It doesn't matter anymore to think
about users. Users don't have any chance to complain, users have to
take it or leave it. Users have to sign Eula's and other things which
are ridiculous - you need a lawyers assistance to be sure that you can
sign it. And so on.

The goal nowadays seems to be to have nice pictures. Function doesn't
matter so much anymore. And these things will be getting worse,
believe me.

Examples:
- The new Yahoo-email - I don't use it anymore.
- Adobe Reader - I didn't sign the update. To much to read for signing
up. More than three times a day a popup shows up urging me to install
it. But I will resist.
- Microsoft's SkyDrive doesn't work with Vista nor XP

I am sure you know much more "New Generation Software" pranks.
What a great world we will have with all the new software coming up!

I feel the same,

Siemens WinCC Flexible can't do this day what Borland software did 15
years ago.
RA Factory Talk viev Studio machine edition (even the name is funny)
miss many function that his predecessor had (Panelbuilder)

I agree. I made my own small blog with a static http server and 4 tag of html, p pre img and a href. Blindingly fast and has resizable or list like static text.

I bounce between wanting to learn forth scheme and haskell. I hate perl and use tcl for unix scripting.

I never leaned c.

I would love to see a blog with your thoughts on programming.
