I ran across a brand new COBOL editor and Tracking System called,
Mintaka Code Tracker.

Although it's in beta now and I try to stay away from early versions in
general, I was enticed to try it when I saw all of its cool
features, many of which I have never come across in all my years of
COBOL programming. The most notable feature (among many sexy
additions) is a Transaction Log of all modifications. This is
invaluable in helping me remember what I've done. It also has almost
two dozen built-in reports so I can keep management happy.

The bottom line is that I have never understood my code (or someone
else's) as well as I do using Code Tracker.

Check it out at http://www.mintaka.com

Seems as if new languages are on the horizon. Give me a C++ and Java
version now!

Maybe you did. But I don't believe it for a moment, not when you spam
newsgroups about it.

I don't mind an occasional on-topic honest plug. I don't care to buy from
companies which appear to be lying to me. As I said, I could be mistaken
about your post. But I have seen too many similar posts telling me how the
poster got rich quick.

I agree.

I looked at the site and this appears to be an editor with some tracking
facilities. No compiler there at all.

I'll stick with NetExpress if it's OK with Coyote. Oops! Did I make a
'vendor plug'?

Hope their code is better than their website. I tried to capture a
betacode version... The download screen failed (internal error) and
the "send CD" screen rejected me on an invalid ZIP code (altho it
accepts Canada as a country, it doesn't accept our A9A 9A9 postal code
format).

Colour me "skeptical"...

You are indeed mistaken. Sadly, you posted a personal attack without
giving the benefit of a doubt.

Obviously, bad past experiences have so negatively affected you that
you felt it necessary to unfairly assault what is a simple, spontaneous
notice that I had discovered an exciting new COBOL-related product.

I will not defend my enthusiasm. Suffice to say that you can believe
or not believe what you choose to, that is your business and should
stay as such since the rest of us are here to share new ideas, product
info, and value-added information.

...Probably they have got your address in their database and [postal code]
might be
a *validated* field..I am just guessing here that A9A 9A9 would not be your
postal code..or is it? Pardon me if it is.

I with you, Howard; skeptical.

Only three posts (ever) from cobolcoyote - all on this amazing new
product and all posted from my-deja.com and aol.com.

Of course its his postal code. And several other countries use the
same format as well. It all has to do with whose readers the posties
bought. Trouble with being Canadian you have to live next door to the
Elephant. If they know how to program, he would have put in the
postal code and it would have filled in the city, province (called
states in some countries), and maybe the country. (I wonder if
Indonesia and Canada have overlapping codes)? Whatever......fdr

If I am mistaken, I am sorry. Note that I did use the word "appear", as I
didn't have confidence enough to make a stronger claim - nor to make a
personal attack. I do agree with you that the format of your posts is a
very common format used by spammers, which doesn't mean that you are a
spammer.

Don't bother apologizing ... I 'registered' at their web site with a test
mail address,
that is suddenly being barraged by SPAM. Amazingly, even on a T1 line, we
were unable to
download their product, and the 'Send me a CD' registration is broken.

I would strongly suggest that your suggestion approaches the truth. :)

I emailed their feedback email address with the information on the web page
failure when I requested a download. I received an email back apologizing
for the web page problem and requesting my snail mail address so they could
mail a CD.

For what it's worth...

Well, maybe they are legit then. If so, they sure picked a poor marketing
ploy.
I don't think you could have a poorer marketing strategy than to look like a
spam house.

Well it's a real product, pretty buggy at this point (to the point of
un-usability in my opinion) but it's a real product.

It will be interesting to see how they respond to bug reports.

Their bug report web form appears to work at least. 8)

Once again for what it's worth.
