Has anyone else received an item of UCE (unsolicited commercial email) from
Vista Software in the last few hours (Subject "Vista Webletter: March
2000")? I've never knowingly had any dealings with this company and have
never registered my "normal" email address with them (when I register with
companies I always register a tailored email address so I know who is
passing my details around) so it would appear that someone, either at that
company or on their behalf, is operating an opt-out list.

I notice that the email is urging people to help Apollo win some magazine's
poll, I wonder if this is the reason that someone has been increasing the
subscriber base of this "webletter"?

I got one too, actully two, one to each of my email addresses.
(Don't know where they got my home email from! )

Do not vote for them!!! They LOCK the indexes everytime
you do a skip. If you run multiuser to a network it is HELL
to pay with corrupted files all the time. I spent a HUGE amount of
money in development with their tool and boy did I get screwed!
Had to scrap it all and use Advantage.

I do my best to not do business with people who use opt-out lists to mail
out UCE (and UCE that has bogus subjects), I'm not very likely to vote for
them.

It's a shame how many "credible" people in the Clipper/Xbase community seem
to think that I should have to pay for their marketing. There's been a long
line of them over the years that I've been posting here.

Alen,

Could you please explain this problem with the index locking?
I thought all the CDX drivers - including Advatage - do this.
Exactly how did it stop you?

Advantage is totally the way to go for a Clipper backend.
ADS is also pretty impressive in windows development as well. There
StreamlineSQL is not perfect, but way better than most of the competition.

I'd like to review the Apollo server vx the Advantage server. We're in the
midst of doing an internet based system and we may have a chance to try
Apollo out.... if we do, we're review both, I can post the results here.
And we'll publish a detailed report also.
