Hi,
I use the toolbar class SEUIXP from Frank Ebert.

I have now a problem with the menu colors since I have updated to windows
Vista.
The menu has different colors, so that I can#T read the Menu Items.

Has anybody an solution?

Juergen

I think you mean Sven <g>. Anyhow, we use Sven's classes but I am not
sure what you mean by colour? We are also using it on Vista but I don't
do any colouring of menus - it just uses the default. Where do you apply
colouring and what is the problem you are seeing?

Geoff

(PS - give me the class method names you call, I can see if I can
replicate your problem)

Hi Geoff,

I have just solved my problem. The default Menu color was mixed up. The
first Item was black, the second green and so on. After reimporting the
libraries and touching the the entities everything is working fine.

Thanks for your help

Geoff,

If you want to colour your menus why not take a look at the new toolstrip
class, which also includes MenuStrip, StatusStrip etc. You can do the
outlook 2003 or 2007 very easily with them. All you need to do is add your
own renderer based on ToolStripProfessionalRenderer

Goeff,

now I can't show a screenshot, because the error is gone and I can't
reproduce it.
The colors defekt was only relating to the selection bar of the menu not to
the background.

I haven't seen colour use in menus and was just wondering what the

Perhaps. At the moment I am still wrestling with whether I want this or
not. Menu drop downs, by and large, don't have colour and I hadn't
thought (till now) that they should. That was why I was keen to look at
one that did.

If anything, I'd go for the 2007 ribbon thing but you lose a lot of
vertical real estate. Perhaps as time goes by and people get decent LCD
monitors this won't matter either but I wonder at the need for pictures
all the time when 90% of the images are as undecipherable as the menu
item name.

I guess I need to review how much work is involved creating them.

Hi Geoff,

Yes for you, of course I did mean your C# apps.

Well .Net exe's menu drop downs do under Vista if you look closely. All the
Office 2007 stuff does. Its just that the standard Vista scheme is quite
bland. but is easy enough to over ride the values of the
ProfessionalColorTable and use the old XP blue, olivegreen and silver
schemes. There is demo floating around, that changes colours of just about
everything you can think of randomly - it looks an absolute mess after a
couple of seconds of running, but it sure proves a point.

It's a little more work doing the Outlook 2007 colours because you need to
modify your render code to take into account the glass look of the
Navigation buttons and the menu highlights, so there are actually two
LinearGradientBrushes to each button and menuItem for all the new Office
stuff and naturally all the Vista stuff. The renderer's are absolutely
brilliant because they give you complete control of just about every pixel I
can think of, so you can override anything. Of course I wouldn't have a clue
what SEUIXP does, as I've never seen it, but I guess it provides XP colour
schemes for menus and toolbars for VO.

Don't be fooled by the term ToolStrip, it does heaps more than just toolbars
etc. It can contain ToolStripMenuItems, ToolStripDropDownsMenus,
ToolStripButtons, ToolStripDropDownButtons, MenuStrips, StatusStrips,
ContexMenus etc. it is a very large addition to .Net - just look at Outlook
2007 it's all doable with ToolStrip. I'll bring some stuff along to that Sql
seminar next month and show you.

> I guess I need to review how much work is involved creating them.

Do you mean VO or C#? It would take forever in VO, because you'd have to do
everything at the API level, doable yes, but I hate to think how long it
would take and who would have the time? Some nice guy from MS has just made
it reasonably easy for .Net programmers.

I reckon it is worth the effort if you want your apps to look as modern as
anything that MS produces. I'm in the process of updating my so called
"mythical app" - Dick's term<g>, to provide an alternate interface for the
next version, so the user gets to decide which UI they want to use, either
the existing or the new UI.

I agree with you re the loss of real estate. But as a user of Word it
doesn't worry me at all, because the functionality of Word is so much
improved now with the new layout. Just glad I didn't start writing my user
manuals until I had swapped to using Office 2007.

Regards
Graham
