Hello to all,

I have installed Crystal Reports Professional 11 R2 and try to get Com
working.
However, the component CrystalRuntime.Application.11.5 is not registered.
I guess I need some runtime installer but somehow, after googling a few
hours, I am not able to find how to do that.

I have bought the Crystal library from Phil Mermod that uses:

IF (ObjID=NIL)
ObjID := "CrystalRuntime.Application.11.5"
ENDIF

But then... How to install CrystalRuntime.Application.11.5? That component
is not there....
I do have CrystalRuntime.Application.8.5 in my ole-components... But that is
an old version, need to use 11.5...

I hope anybody can give or guide me to an installer to install all necessary
files to run a Crystal XI report in VO.
Thanx... Marc

Marc,

See: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-21872

Excerpts: "The RDC deprecation timeline aligns with Microsoft’s COM
deprecation policy.
The introduction of .NET in Microsoft Visual Studio 2002 brought about major
changes to the way developers write applications for the Windows
platform—particularly for web applications. .NET and Java have quickly
become the dominant preferred development platforms for building
applications. As a result of this trend, Microsoft announced plans in 2005
to stop supporting their COM-based development tools, with Visual C++ 6
support ending in September 2005 and Visual Basic (VB) 6 support ending in
March 2008.
The RDC is a COM component based on craxdrt.dll, an ActiveX designer object
originally designed for Microsoft Visual Basic 5 and 6 developers. Business
Objects RDC deprecation plan is in alignment with Microsoft’s COM-based
development tools support lifecycle."

* In summary: According to the article, the RDC is deprecated. They advise
on using .NET.

* A work-around is to use the .NET assemblies and create your COM visible
component which can then use with VO. May be that will work for you.

HTH,
Jamal

Thanx Jamal for your answer, but this was not my question.

The question is why there is no CrystalRuntime.Application.11.5 on my
machine after installing Crystal Reports XI R2.
(or CrystalRuntime.Application.11 after installing Crystal Reports XI)

Regards, Marc

Marc,

My reports are all written in Crystal 11. But I cannot install that with the
installer. Instead I install the Crystal 13 runtime. It will read the
Crystal 11 files with no trouble. If you google Crystal for VS 2012 you can
get the SAP link to pick up the developers version for VS 2010 & 2012. I use
installaware and it installs the runtime automatically if I check Crystal
Reports. When you instanciate it from VO, I would use
CrystalRuntime.Application instead of the version specific one.

The point is:
There is no CrystalRuntime.Application nor CrystalRuntime.Application.## on
my machine....
How is that possible? And how to install them...

Hi Marc,
many years ago we tried to make the conversion from Crystal Reports 9 to
Crystal Reports 11 and we had problems with some components.
Until now we use the Crystal Reports 9 runtime with the old "legacy" DLL
interface together with Crystal Reports 2011 report designer or Crystal
Reports 11 report designer. There are only few functions that are not
useable in the newer report designers.

Marc,

Please google Crystal reports for VS 2012 and you will get a link from SAP
for the developers version of Crystal reports 13 that integrates into VS
2012. Once you have it installed, you will be able to use it from Vulcan,
C#, VB, and VO.

Hi Willie,

May I correct something:
Once you have it installed, you will be able to use it from Vulcan, C#, VB

VO: using official ways: no.
Reason: There are offered only two interfaces for Crystal Reports: Dotnet
and Java.

Most of the legacy DLL calls are working although they are not documented:
Unfortunately not all are working. Probably they have been blocked
intentionally.

It is really an important reason to go to Vulcan: to have new interface
possibilities to integrate other tools like Crystal Reports.
Less and less manufactorers offer DLL or COM access possibilities.
