To all the community:

Happy New 2006 Year !!!

Wishing all of You a New Year filled with new hope, new joy and new
beginnings ....

And now my question -
Does anybody have experience with thermal printer IER 512 ? Does anybody
have description of the commands with wich to control and print using that
printer ?
Thanks, Venci

Is this a 'barcode' printer? I've written some simple functions to work
with a 'Zebra' printer. Basically, you write the printer controls, and text
(or what ever it is you want to print) to a file. Then copy the file to the
printer.

Do you have a manual? I didn't find much about the printer with a quick
Google.

With some more information, I may be able to be more helpful.

Hi Marshall !
Thanks for the reply.

IER512 is a thermal document and tag dispenser, as described in:
http://www.omnidatasys.net/product/desc_printer_ier512.htm
We use them to print 'strip marks' in the terminology of air traffic
services. Up to now we have used the older version wich is IER 411, but
now it is not on sale, so we need to upgrade to the 'newer version'. But
there are some differences between them. For example, as seen on the self
test, the newer printer has the ability to use different fonts
simultaneously. But there was no manual with it. And we do not know how to
use these abilities ...

Venci,

There's not much online about this printer (maybe someone else will prove me
wrong). I would imagine it's their label on someone else's box. Is that
possible? (It looks like they'd like to charge you to program
it...."Contact us for special needs ...etc.)

Anyway, does the code you have working on the earlier machine work on this
one? (I realize the features have improved.) If yes, post a couple lines,
and I can tell you if it's 'Zebra" compatible, if it is, things will be alot
easier (getting at advanced features, etc.).

Marshall,

I Googled too and was surprised there was so little info available. I also
work with Zebra printers from mobile devices, and the printer control
langauge seems to be pretty standardized across their line from the ones
I've used. I just write to those printers through the serial port. I'd
suggest contacting the distributor or whoever sold the printer to the client
to get the official docs.

Ginny,

I would guess one of two things. Either it's a Zebra style printer with a
different case put over it (or some other manufacturer), or perhaps France
invested some dollars in a specialized piece of equipment for the airline
industry. While there are other ways to make tickets 'unique', one could
understand why you might not want to be printing boarding passes with any
old label printer. (Spoken like a true 'paranoid' American...<g>)
Actually, the fact you can buy one from a website probably rules out this
theory. Oh well... I'll try to stop watching so much television.

As i know, the newer printer supports this commands, but they have to be
enclosed in frames, but what should this be I still do not know ...
