I returned from the Devcon in Shrewton today. Here's a short summary.

This was my first Devcon and it was probably the best conference I
have ever visited. First of all, it is exceptional value for money;
the 69 pounds fee would normally barely cover the great lunches the
BBQ and home baking all done by Gay. I advised Phil to advertise next
year's Devcon as a culinary event with some sessions during the breaks
and the recreation hall in Shrewton would have to be expanded <g>.

Paul Piko showed VS (I fortunately did come across most already and
that makes it so amazing how much of this all can also be done in
VIDE, and in (for me) important fields, more). Plus he showed W8 and
the datagrid. Mike Pitcher showed web development and how to use
standard solutions, and MS's Umbraco. Alwyn Jennings-Brandy showed a
technical masterpiece he wrote (a full 3D applications) and how to
standarize settings (via XML files). Robert v.d. Hulst showed SQL 2012
and Lightswitch, a MS application to build application "without
programming".

For me personally, Chris Pyrgas' presentations showing Winforms and
lot's of Vulcan stuff were most useful, together with Nick Friend's
WCF presentation. He showed how you can make a nice looking real
Windows application which can just as easy use data on the local PC or
server as it takes the data from the web. The user interface and
responsiveness of such an application is better than a full web based
application while still you might give the user web access to data.
Frank Maraite showed how to structure an application in such a way
that business logic is well separated from the user interface.

I am going to check the session material and will then make some
decisions about our future path.

Dick,

Thanks for the report. Phil and Alwyn do a great job hosting conferences. I
have enjoyed each one that I have attended. I should be back in shape to
return next year. I am doing good in Physical Therapy and will be allowed to
return to work tomorrow!!

Regards,
Willie

Hi Willie,

Great to hear you're doing well! But don't overdo. ;-)

Dick, thanks for the update. The Devcon sounds like it was a lot of fun.
