I know that this may look like a stupid question but I am currently running
an investigation on changing our database platform over to Oracle.
Our app is connecting to our existing DBF database using DataServer as well
as straight RDD functions. What I am looking for is an RDD that instead of
connecting to a DBF table to connect to a table in an oracle server,
preferably not using ODBC since it is very slow. We cannot afford rewriting
the app (since it has been developing for the past 7 years) and we need a
solution pretty fast (possibly within a year).
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

1. Check
http://www.sas-software.nl/Vo2Ado.htm and
http://www.sas-software.nl/faqado.htm
download the free evaluation version. Vo2Ado lets you connect to any
OLE-DB
There are some VO-er's using Vo2Ado. AFAIK source code is available with
professional version at a very reasonable price.
2. Check

Good luck, an d let us know your experiences.
Have a nice and peaceful day!

As far as I know there is no RDD yet that can do this. But..., we are currenly
developing an RDD version of our Vo2Ado product. This should be available in
the first quarter of next year. With this RDD you should be able to connect to
Oracle through OleDb.

Yes and No.
Of course there is more to connecting to a SQL database than just changing the
RDD. You have to supply the system with Username/password and Server/Database
information and more similar things.
But given that you should be able to migrate your code with minimal code
changes.

Thanks for the plug, however, Michael won't find much information at my web
site as its under construction.
However, if he wants to contact me by e-mail I might be able to help him out
as I do have an ADO RDD developed and tested that might suit him ;-)

We will put up an announcement if and when we are ready for that.
