Rudi,

we use list&label to write to the POS-printers (a windows driver for the
printer is required!!).

We use the Epson TM-88 and use the standard driver.

More info about POS printer problems !

We made POS software for restaurants, therefore we need up to SIX POS
printers on one PC, also there are two
applications running, one in background to handle the wireless order devices
and one in foreground that is the POS application.
Both print to the POS printers via standard windows printing system and
normal windows drivers.
(EPSON TMT / STAR TSP /CITIZEN CBM1000)

When there is big trafic to the printers we get the following errors

- Cannot print to LPTX or COMx because another program use the
port ??
(Printing is over hte windows spooler ??)

- Spool 32 error

....

we tought that the OPOS standard gives better result with POS devices ???

If you eliminate the Windows spool32 printing problems first the fact that
you are using POS and WA's shouldn't matter, what does matter is that each
machine will have a certain load to carry (ie your background app and
foreground app, and if peer2peer networked that overhead as well).

Spool32 errors usually result becuase the m/c runs out of resource which
extra memory can often fix. Use something like Norton utilities to monitor
the machines to confirm this especially if its intermittent, the only other
thing I'd watch for is DOS drivers on the machines.

Use this for the spool32 errors

lots of pages for this.

We really have problems.
When we send a lot of reports to the pos-printers, Windows Is giving errors
like. The LPT-port is used by another program, etc... We only print from one
program. This error comes on LPT as well on COM ports. It happens with STAR
printers and the CBM1000 printer. The only solution I found until now is to
print the reports via a Clarion for Dos application.
