news.groups.questions exists to solve these kinds of `where should i post'
problems.

Later: I looked at it. It seems to have started on 2002-01-23 and
currently consists of about 120 threads with an average 2+ messages per
thread. A quick look suggests that most threads are dialogues with
people at Gimpel. It looks good to me!

Mmm, as a reader of news.groups.questions, I think the original
poster chose reasonably. The response from news.groups.questions
would[1] have been that no such group exists, but that asking in
a group with people who use lint-like tools might turn up
alternatives to Usenet. For that matter, some lint-related
discussion might be appropriate in this group, depending on the
details (at least in my opinion, obviously the moderator may
disagree).
Now, that may be a frequently-asked question in this group, in
which case we would hope the original poster consulted the FAQ
for this group (or searched the archives) before posting.
Imagine as an extreme case that someone wants to discuss issues
related to publishing SF magazines. It's unlikely that anyone in
news.groups.questions would know. But asking rec.arts.sf.written
might turn up something (and for that matter, depending on the
nature of the group, the topic might be appropriate there).
[1] Unless, of course, somebody in news.groups.questions knew of
the lint mailing list (which might happen, there are some
clueful people there).

not too poorly, i agree. but it was a stab in the dark, for which starting
in news.groups.questions is probably a better starting point.
