I bought a copy of Intel's C++ Compiler years ago, but have since lost
it. Does anybody know who I could contact, or if I can contact someone,
at Intel to find my order, and download another copy of it? Is there a
specific compiler division or sales division for compilers?

Thank you,

As an alternative to bugging people who happen to be Intel C++ Compiler
users, why not simply start at the Intel support page for the compiler,
and work from there?

<https://software.intel.com/en-us/c-compilers/ipsxe-support>

It took me perhaps 20 seconds to find it, and I didn't even need to use
google.

They are Intel employees. One of them works on supporting the
Intel C++ compiler.

I've never tried that compiler. My question would be if they have
support for string_view yet.

For a period of time intel offered their compiler suite for free on
Linux for non commercial development. Not any more. Now you have to be
student and have student address.

Will do. Thanks for the guidance.

That does not matter in the slightest.

If you wanted to buy an apple, and you happened to meet an employee of
your local supermarket while walking in a fruit orchard, would you
expect him to sell you an apple there?

If you want support for some software, contact the support department
for that software through the appropriate channels. Don't try to make
personal direct contacts with people who happen to work at that support
site.

After your post I was getting ready to write them, and I thought I would
try something else related to them being Intel employees. I downloaded
a trial version of their current compiler, and they sent me some follow-
up email. I have used that info to try to contact them regarding my
older compiler. I'm hoping that will work.

I appreciate your assistance, Brian.

Did you not get any response from their normal support page? It may be
that your compiler is too old and the support contract has run out, but
I would expect them to tell you that.

That doesn't make them the contact point for compiler licensing.

Thank you, David. I did not get an initial reply from Intel where I
attempted, so I also went to the forum and posted a message there.

You're probably right that it's too old, but if not I would like to
have that compiler as well.

Fair enough. When you use the proper support page, you can expect an
answer (even if it is a polite "that product is no longer supported").
But when you send a support request directly to a developer or a member
of the support staff, it is perfectly reasonable for them to ignore the
email. That's why I wanted to push the correct support address on you,
rather than Brian's daft, disrespectful and time-wasting plan of finding
someone who might be an Intel support person via articles they have written.

Sure, I can well appreciate that. Intel's compiler certainly used to be
free for personal use on Linux - I don't know the current state (on
Linux or Windows). Versions of icc are on the godbolt site, which
suggests that at least those versions could be freely used (or Mr.
Godbolt should probably disable them).

You can check this page:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/c-compilers/iss-support

There are support options. You can also post a question in the community

You can find compiler tar files occasionally on university or supercomputer
websites, if you know the filename to search for. Doesn't imply that they
are free - you still need a license file or serial number to activate.

Intel told me they keep records back to version 6.0. My compiler
was version 4.5 IIRC, and they were unable to locate a sales record.
