Hello,

More about arabs..

I am a white arab, and I think arabs are smart people,
Babylonians of Irak were racially arabs, read about them here:

3,700-year-old Babylonian tablet rewrites the history of maths - and shows the Greeks did not develop trigonometry

Also read the following about Arabs:

Research: Arab Inventors Make the U.S. More Innovative

It turns out that the U.S. is a major home for Arab inventors. In the five-year period from 2009 to 2013, there were 8,786 U.S. patent applications in our data set that had at least one Arab inventor. Of the total U.S. patent applications, 3.4% had at least one Arab inventor, despite the fact that Arab inventors represent only 0.3% of the total population.

Even Steve Jobs the founder of Apple had a Syrian immigrant father called Abdul Fattah Jandal.

Bullshit. They weren't the first, is all.

The Babylonians weren't the first, either.

Why are you applying categorizations of intelligence to a particular
ethnic group? Are you a racist? You honestly think that ethnicity
and race are somehow linked to intelligence? Only racists look at
races and then make generalizations about them relating to things
like intelligence, abilities, competence and the like.

Trigonometry was invented by the people that created the CORDIC

Crap. "Similiar" mathematical techniques were first published in the
17th century. CORDIC itself wasn't even conceived until the 20th.

It's a smiley, not an "emoticon" (which would be a picture. No pictures
here).

Anyway, a smiley in such a message is extremely ambiguous. It could
quite well mean that you aren't saying the thing seriously, or it
could also mean that you are mocking the other person. It's impossible
to tell which, from the smiley alone.

Consider, for example, these two sentences:

"That's what she said. ;-)"

"Yeah, whatever you say, pal. And the Moon is made of cheese. ;-)"

One is jestful. The other is mockery. In this case it's clearer which is
which. However, it's not always so clear-cut.

Interesting ... why people do not use emoticons in Usenet? 🤔 😝

Maybe for autists, but normal people recognize the meaning,
even more with an additional "hrhr".

That distinction has grown fuzzy. For instance, my newsreader
(Thunderbird) automatically converts ;-) into a picture of a smiley face.

For example, if you were never taught how to read, you will score
extremely badly on a standardized test.

The US as a whole is racist against arabs. Not as badly treated
as blacks, but like 'black is beautiful' to retain sanity, I can
see an 'arab is beautiful'. Be honest: when you here 'arab woman'
are you thinking Salma Hayek or Olga the Soviet tractor factory
worker?

It can be taken too far, but wait for evidence of that. By the

I googled Salma and she's a Mexican-American, not an Arab.

The issue is multidimensional and complicated, but the bottom line is that
there ARE differences in average IQ between human races and societies.

While there may be small differences between races these are dwarfed by
the differences within races.

It's true, but I was refering to:

"You honestly think that ethnicity and race are somehow linked to
intelligence?"

Studies show that, to some extent, it is.

No, the studies show that better education is well correlated to good
results on IQ tests.

Maybe. But I can think of one exception. One of histories greatest Mathematicians never really had an education. This was evident in his proof writing. Or lack thereof. But this guy, just like Euler, made significant contributions to almost every branch of Mathematics.

According to one of the Professor's at Harvard who worked with him, at the age of 21, he was proving three theorems a day.

Yes, but not enough to matter.

When someone comes in for a job interview his (or her!) race is no guide
as to whether they will be able to do the job.

Generally true but how they talk and express themselves will be a factor
to decide whether to hire the person or not.

Friendly appearance is very important at the interview. Therefore, race
might become a factor because some cultures have problems becoming
friendly quickly.

Someone appearing pointlessly friendly feels duplicitous and fake in
software development. More important is to appear proficient, dutiful,
ambitious and genuinely interested in technology. Sure, it is trickier
to fake too.
