hello everyone. i am a first tije programmer taking an introductory
course inc++. k after some searching, i located a copy of borland c++
in for my machine (an old 8088 with 640k and a 20 meg hd). i went
through the instillation program, but when i try to start c++ from the
c:\tc\bin prompt, i get the message
failed to locate dpmi server (dpmi16bi.ovl)
how can i get tc to locate this file? it is in the c:\tc\bin directory.
any help will be a great help (i have ms, and it is a real headache to go to th
e comp lab. i hope i can run this on my machine) thanks in advance
gary

It's not the file, but the program that is at fault. AFAIK DPMI will not run
on anything below a 386, and definitely will not run on a 640kb machine.
DPMI is a memory manager used to control access to memory past the 1MB
barrier on a PC, so first you need that memory.

I suspect you'll have to either upgrade the machine or forget using c++.

*hugs*

Count your blessings. Many people in the world don't even have a computer!

Or more on topic: start using Eclipse as an IDE! That should take
care of at least 1GB.
