<div>If you've never played Devil May Cry 4, or miss the glory days of the series where Dante was fun, combat was deep and challenging, and things weren't so stupid edgy and serious, this low-priced special edition offers fun aplenty. The dragged out play time, rehashed areas, and even more rehashed boss fights drag things down a bit, but the real heart of this devil is in its fighting, and it's just as fantastically satisfying today as it was nearly a decade ago.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Several years after the Order of the Sword incident, a new demonic threat has invaded our world. It's up to the legendary devil hunters Dante and Nero to stop it, with the newcomer V joining forces with them. Support the biggest and most powerful platform on the planet or miss out on sales: seems like an easy decision, but the results can be questionable. When considering Capcom's Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition [official site], for example, exhibit A would be DMC4's original PC port in 2008, a straight-from-console affair that could only be controlled with a pad. Great game plus great hardware doesn't always equal great experience. So, with the Special Edition now launched, does this devil finally get his due?</div><div></div><div></div><div>Devil May Cry 5 is back, and now upgraded for next-generation consoles! Several years after the Order of the Sword incident, a new demonic threat has invaded our world. It's up to the legendary devil hunters Dante and Nero to stop it, with the newcomer V joining forces with them. These three men's fates are tied together in mysterious and surprising ways. In Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, blistering speed meets impeccable control for an incredibly tight gameplay experience as you work your way through the thrilling story. This optimized version of the original release represents the pinnacle of stylish action and was recognized with numerous game awards! Not enough You'll also hear the action unfold around you with incredible 3D sound, and loading times go by in a blink to keep the thrills coming. All of this with even more intense new modes so you can push your style to the max.</div><div></div><div></div><div>First of all, it's worth emphasising just how preliminary this test is. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is essentially a cross-gen title - an enhanced version of the game already available on current generation Xbox and PlayStation hardware. And we also know from developer conversations just how hard it's been to get final software ready for launch, especially on the Xbox side, where several studios have had challenges in moving across to the development environment. With that said, however, Capcom previously stated that Xbox Series X would not ship with ray tracing support, which would be PlayStation 5 only - but the truth is that both consoles arrive with the exact same features across the board, RT included.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Normal Mode: The standard way to play Devil May Cry on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X systems is to use the normal mode, which operates with native resolution rendering at full HD - 3840x2160. It's an impressive boost over PS4 Pro, which used image reconstruction techniques to hit 1800p, with Xbox One X also using reconstruction to target 4K. Gameplay on the new systems is mostly at 60fps or higher, but there can be drops below - and cutscenes are especially impacted. In normal mode, Xbox Series X is consistently faster than PlayStation 5 but only in single digit percentage terms - around eight per cent.</div><div></div><div></div><div>However, the fact that we can use Devil May Cry 5 as a 'benchmark' at all is mostly down to the fact that the developers have targeted 120Hz as the standard refresh rate output. This is great for seeing top-end performance metrics, but it's bad news for the experience - especially on PlayStation 5. This is because 120Hz output is locked to any screen that supports 120Hz, no matter the resolution. So consider a highly popular 4K screen - the LG OLED B8. PS5 sees that it is 120Hz-compatible, and overrides 4K resolution. All modes will run at a 120Hz refresh rate, at 1080p resolution - which is absolutely not ideal. Another popular screen is the Samsung NU8000. It's a 4K screen but on PS5, Devil May Cry will force through the 120Hz refresh rate instead, resulting in a downscale to 1440p that the user has no control over.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>The Bulova Special Edition Oceanographer Devil Diver 98B320 are made in pure "dive" style, as confirmed by the "devilish" water resistance of 666 feet (200 meters). However, they also serve well for everyday wear. The design of this model is based on the successful Bulova Oceanographer from the 1970s.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The watch stays on the wrist thanks to the stainless steel bracelet, and thanks to the 44 mm case diameter, it fits perfectly on most men's wrists. The name Devil Diver refers to its water resistance, as the watch is rated at devilish 666 feet, or 200 meters, so it can handle almost any contact with water, including deep-sea diving.</div><div></div><div></div><div>While this all seems like great news for Devil May Cry fans, Capcom faced backlash for a series of clarifications it had to make after the special edition was announced. Unlike most games that were releasing an enhanced version of previous-gen games, Capcom didn't offer a free upgrade path to the updated game, charging players $40 to play. Players on PC were also understandably upset as Devil May Cry 5 would not be receiving ray tracing in the PC version, with Capcom citing that the special edition had been designed with next-gen consoles in mind.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Both Trish and Lady have been mainstays of the Devil May Cry series for several entries now, with Trish first appearing in the original Devil May Cry and Lady debuting in Devil May Cry 3. While these badass ladies have typically taken a supporting role in previous games, they are fully playable for both the campaign as well as the Bloody Palace mode in Devil May Cry 4. They each have completely unique move sets with Lady wielding the Kalina Ann as both a melee weapon and a rocket launcher, and Trish wielding the legendary devil sword Sparda.</div><div></div><div></div><div>In one of Devil May Cry 5's post credits scene, players find Lady and Trish hanging out back at Devil May Cry. While they talk about how it seems that Dante is really gone for good this time, Morrison walks in and tells the ladies that he has a new job for the two of them before they move off scene. To many players, this seemed to imply that special story DLC was coming that would star Lady and Trish. However, with the announcement of the game's special edition, it seems that this dream has been dashed.</div><div></div><div></div><div>The release of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition may have been the perfect time to release Lady and Trish DLC, but that doesn't necessarily mean all hope is lost. Devil May Cry 5 took on some business practices that were different than previous entries, such as the ability to engage in microtransactions to purchase Red Orbs. While this is likely not ideal for most players, it could mean that Capcom may be looking at bringing more DLC to the special edition later in the future. But until then, players will likely have to stick with modding the game to include The Walking Arsenal and The Fiendish Femme Fatale.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Although Devil May Cry 5 came out just last year, the announcement of the Special Edition still generated a lot of excitement. This version will add the fan-favorite swordsman Vergil to the game as a playable character, just like the special editions of Devil May Cry 3 and 4 did before it. DMC5 Special Edition will also include the Legendary Dark Knight difficulty mode (a turbo mode that boosts the game speed by 20%) and support for ray tracing and higher frame rates up to 120 frames per second. Apparently, though, PC players won't get to experience all the new upgrades for themselves.</div><div></div><div></div><div>SUNNYVALE, Calif. - January 3, 2006 - Capcom, a powerhouse in the multi-billion dollar video game industry, today announced Devil May Cry3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system will join Sony's "Greatest Hits" collection.
