Sorry if this is a repost; I'm such a news newbie dummy:

I have installed the Visual Basic 5.0 of the Visual Studio 5.0
Professional product. Any time I try to reference the Panel object, which
is part of the Sheridan 3D Library (THREED32.OCX) I get "Cannot load
control SSPanel1; license not found." THis OCX file is part the the
install from The Visual Studio CD; how can I not be licensed? No other
contol complains of not being licensed. I have not found any help in any
of the help files and read.mes's on the CD. Is this a Registry problem? I
found the key for the class under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\....(long CLSID)...\.
Is some sub key relevant to licensing? If not, how does this scheme work?
Please dont tell me to reinstall; I hve done this umpteen times,
including reformating the hard disk and manually rebuilding it, with
absolutely no change in results.

HELLLLLLLP!!!!

this may be a dumb response but....

why don't you call either Sheridan or Microsoft? If you have professional
edition you have 2 free support
calls, I believe.

Here is a paragraph from the Read.me file that comes with an upgrade to the
Sheridan Designer Widgets product.

I quote ********

"Special Note to VB 5.0 Users

If you have VB5.0 installed on a system that did NOT have VB4.0 installed,
you will have problems opening the sample files provided with Designer
Widgets.

In order to open the samples under VB5, you must have a 32 bit version of
THREED installed and licensed for design time use. The file THREED32.OCX
is included on your VB5 CD-ROM, but it is not installed by the setup
program. If you wish to use the samples, you must install THREED32.OCX
manually.

To Install THREED32.OCX file, follow the instructions provided in the
README.TXT file found in the \TOOLS\CIONTROLS directory of the VB5 CD-ROM.

End Quote *****

I believe even if you had THREED installed for VB4.0 you need to reinstall
it from your CD-ROM to get it setup to use.

Good Luck

I have a similar problem and have not yet found the answer for it. It is
the opposite of yours. I get the same error message when trying to place a
MSTab control on my app, but I can put an SStab on it. DOH!

If anybody out there can help up it will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem (after I'd uninstalled VB4).

I think the reason is because THREED32 is no longer considered (by MS)
a standard part of VB5 (and setup presumably doesn't bother to install it at
all !)

Have a look in the readme file I've attached (it came from e:\entrpris\tools\c
ontrols\readme.txt on my installation CD). It basically tells you to copy the
Sheridan OCX files to the windows\system directory, register them yourself
& then setup the licensing using 'regedit vbctrls.reg'

Once I'd followed the instructions in the readme.txt file it cured it for me !

[ Section: 1/1 File: readme.txt Encoder: Turnpike Version 3.03a ]

begin 644 readme.txt
<encoded_portion_removed>
end

sum -r/size 15065/2235 section (from "begin" to "end")
sum -r/size 35074/1602 entire input file
