I see the end coming. I see the darkness spreading.
I see death... and you are all that stands in his way.

Yes. Try to look for B4A. It is a BASIC in the style of Visual Basic but
can generate Apps for Android. The Apple-Version ist B4I.

I've known about B4X for, well, a long time, all the way back when it was
BASIC4PPC (PocketPC, Microsoft's competitor to Palm Pilots, not PowerPC). I
currently have some commercial apps under development in B4J, and once I'm
ready, I'll be porting them to B4A and B4I for Android and iOS support.

Isn't it simpler to start in B4A/B4I directly?

If I only intended to support Android and/or iOS, then probably yes. But I'm
also releasing my apps for the desktop, and I decided to start there. Once I
have them working, then I'll worry about phones/tablets/etc.

How do you manage different screen-sizes?

I haven't gotten that far yet.

My understanding is that the various B4X systems have slightly different
keywords for certain tasks; I imagine that somewhere in there will be
something to deal with screen sizes and layouts, etc. Or else I'll have to
recreate the interface for each device, which is [shrug] fine, because I'd
have to do that anyway under some/many/most other options.

Honestly, B4X isn't my first choice. I think rather highly of Xojo, and have
copies of a few different versions (mostly under the old name, REALbasic).
I'd stick with that if it supported Android development, but it doesn't.
(Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, web... but no Android.) There are some other dev
systems I've tried, but each one has some kind of shortcoming that made me
stop using it. (Most commonly: "compiling" to a web interface, which is
*not* what I want. If I wanted a web page, I'd write it to *be* a web page.)
