initializing variables

I assume that this:
.data
banner db "PDPCLIB"
__psp dd ?
__envptr dd ?
__osver dw ?
says that the variables can be of any value at startup time,
and that if I want to ensure that they are initialized to 0,
I need to make them "0" instead of "?"?
