Hi,

I have an i-mac running OS 9.3. We want to share it's dial-up connection
with a Tosh laptop running WinME.

Any recommendations on suitable software?

TIA

I used it until OS X came with the ability built in.

You could do this with IP NetRouter
(http://www.sustworks.com/site/prod_ipr_overview.html)

However, an Apple hardware solution would be better - get an AirPort
Base station and a wireless card for the PC.

AirPort base station is good ... but it's more than three times the
price of IPNetRouter.

If you've already got an AirPort or a firewall/router such as a
Barricade then that's the best solution.

If not, but you've already got a machine running OS X or
Linux/BSD/Solaris then you can do it for free.

If not, then IPNetRouter is the best solution.

Hi Bruce

I dont suppose you can point me in the direction of a web site which deals with
setting up a mixed mac and pc network using a linux box as the firewall and
server - preferably one that a twit with little idea of the workings of win2000
and linux could follow? :o) Actually one that just a complete twit could follow
would be good!!

I have a 233 pc with linux in some form loaded to use as the server, I have a 12
port repeater/hub, I have a G3 mac - currently OS 8.6 but 9.x should be possible
and I have an AMD XP1700 based pc running win2000. Initially I need to do this
via a dial up NTL connection, but hopefully with a cable modem in the not too
distant future. What do I do next?

Hi Bruce,

Just a query about sharing the internet of a mac with osx with a pc. You
wrote in the mac newsgroup:

I used it until OS X came with the 'ability built in'.

If not, then IPNetRouter is the best solution.

Could you please run me through setting up macosx with its "ability
built in" to share the internet with a pc?

Thanks in advance for the help....
