To see if I've spelled a word correctly, I frequently throw the word
into the google search bar just to see if google suggests a different
spelling.

But it's often the case that google will not make a suggestion because
it has found thousands of occurrances on the web of the same spelling,
and even if the spelling is not correct it will not suggest a different
spelling.

So is there a way to directly query the spelling of a word on google?

Like perhaps, putting this:

"spell: some-word"

into the google search bar?

Use Firefox and add one of the many dictionaries into the search bar.

When I post to forums, I use Google Toolbar in IE to check my spelling.

Are you saying that you simply perform a standard google search for the
word in question?

If so, I've just stated why that usually doesn't work.

Again, I ask if there is there a way to query the spelling of a word
using google, instead of performing a simple web-search for the word?

You asked for a spell-checker.

Yes, that seems to work.

Is there a list of all the google operators?
