I saw the following blurb today in our company's electronic newsletter...

PIZZA DELIVERED VIA
THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY

Pizza Hut said today it has begun testing a new
Internet ordering system that will allow computer
users to order pizza and beverages through their
computers for home delivery. The system, PizzaNet,
is available through the World Wide Web portion of
the Internet. The system will be tested in the
Santa Cruz, Calif., area due to its large
community of PC users. (PR Newswire)

So does anyone know what the status is of PizzaNet? Is it up and
running? What's the URL?

I got through to the site. Pizza Hut and the Santa Cruz Operation are
co-sponsoring the page. You can get all sorts of info about PH and SCO as
well as ordering a pizza. The form is pretty primitive, it only asks for
name address and phone number. I suppose they get a close by 'Zza Hut to
call you and get the actual order.

Sigh, I was hoping I would get to design my own pizza on line or
something....

It's running now - the server is in Wichita and interfaces
into their normal backend (according to the documents there).

PizzaHut runs SCO software for their current
systems, and their web stuff is also by SCO.

This goes one better than the pizza GIF server I saw somewhere
else...

I hate PH pizzas, but I find the idea entertaining, so I keep trying. No
success several times yesterday or today. The latest telnet attempt

I saw an AP new story on Compuserve the other day about this. Seems that
they are test-marketing this in the San Jose' area only. I tried to
connect too, with similar results.

I was not able to get a response from their machine for
*well* over 30 minutes this afternoon. Do you know where I
can write for a free pizza?

For the initial trials, they are only supporting the Santa Cruz area.
The initial trial is set to run for 90 days. After that point, they'll
decide if they got enough business to continue and expand the service
areas. I suppose it's possible they could get so much business they'll
discover it's worthwhile before the 90 days is up, but it probably won't
help much because each PH delivery agent will have to be brought on line.

The article I saw also indicates you still have to be within 8 minutes
of a PH agent, and you still have to pay when the delivery is made. At
this point, the only real difference of this with phone ordering is the
use of a computer instead of the phone to place the order.

I ordered a Pizza, but it has yet to arrive.

Do I look in the floppy drive or the CDRom Drive?

For delivery of Pizza's they don't even have to bring other stores (?) on-line.
Just fax the order to each store. So just a little more software and more
complete data base and Poof! They are ready to cover the entire country.

it, why should I share it!? ;)

agreed! pizza hut? -- yech! also, they probably need the
extra money this net pizza will generate so that they can
afford to pay the insurance of their workers in this country ;-)

they can afford to pay insurance for workers in other countries,
but refuse to pay for insurance in the usa.

I think one has to own an old fashioned 8" drive.
