When I submit my URL to Alta Vista I get "We could not fetch the page
at this time." message. Now, once it did work but my site is no
longer indexed. But now nothing. And yet I can view my site
perfectly well. Any ideas? Is my URL visible in the rest of the
world? It must be as I'm getting other hits and emailed questions.
URL submission to AltaVista
You have submitted the following URL:
http://www.granite.ab.ca
This URL has been recorded by our robot.
We could not fetch the page at this time.
I do have a robots.txt but when I renamed it that didn't make a
difference. It follows here anyhow.
# robots.txt for http://www.granite.ab.ca/
User-agent: *
Disallow: /busindex/ # These are fictitous place names - Townsville
Disallow: /buspage/ # and are absolutely meaningless
Also when I search on "Granite Consulting" my business name I notice
that some other pages come up with that same name but the physical (if
you can call anything in the Internet physical <grin>) URL doesn't
exist. If you have read this far and want to do your own search
you'll see "Idea & concept" are present in the index but don't exist.
Furthermore I searched for sites pointing to my old web site,
"link:http://www.agt.net/public/ttoews/*" and requested they change to
my new web site. Which a number have already done so. For example:
"MS Access Universal Archive
Microsoft Access on the Web. The Access Page -- this is a page of
resources for Access developers. Microsoft Web Page -- Microsoft's Web
page for...
http://www.vmedia.com/vvc/onlcomp/access/resource.html - size 2K
- 16 May 96"
However if you view the page itself you will clearly see that they've
changed the URL from www.agt.net... to www.granite.ab.ca
So I 'm kinda wondering that AltaVista has not been doing any indexing
for about a month or more. But I'm sure this is ridiculouls.
Is there something my IPP might be doing wrong? Any thoughts on this?
Finally, is there a better newsgroup in which to ask this question?
