Hello web-maniacs.

The following text is NOT REAL, but it could produce serious problems
in the web-space IF REAL. Again, Vitreaux DOES NOT EXISTS... yet :-)

PLEASE READ IT and follow-up your comments (or e-mail me).

V I T R E A U X

A team at this site is working in a new browser for the WWW.
Its name is "VITREAUX" and it is still in beta state.
I think it will be availabe in about 2 weeks (some guys are now
writing the docs, and unix version is almost ready, windows and mac
versions are OK), and it will be free for educational sites.

It is nice, it supports full HTML+, plus extensions.

It is also an editor, so you can create (many templates built-in)
or edit the sources of the current (in a plain text window) and
then apply de changes (like reload). The editor handles simple
tag insert, surround, change and remove, and easy entities insert.

You can configure the font types and sizes, and the color of the fonts
and background in the setup. In HTML docs you can alter this also.
For example, you can SET the first paragraph to be centered and
the following paragraphes will look the same, unless you specify
other options or SET them.

Many logical tags are predefined, and you can define your own
for local use (kiosk mode) or general use (something like
<CERTIFICATE> ... </CERTIFICATE> to specify Certificate TrueType
font; since other browsers ignore this, the text will appear as
normal text). Some of the predefined tags are <RED>, <BLUE>,
<GRAY50>, <BIG>, <UNDERLINE> and so, each with their corresponding
closing tag.

Vitreaux also incorporates new elements, like client-side imagemaps,
boxes with text inside it, multiple columns and tables.

Old elements have new arguments. Bullets and numbers in lists
can be configured or be replaced by gifs or text.

The following are some HTML elements that Vitreaux supports:

--- Paragraphs:

<P ALIGN=align INDENT=indent CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>
blah </P>

--- Headings: Variable size, font and color.

<Hh ALIGN=align INDENT=indent CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>
blah </Hh>

--- Addresses: Aligns right, italic font.

<ADDRESS ALIGN=align INDENT=indent CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>
blah </ADDRESS>

--- Client-side Imagemaps: Other browsers gets this as a list of url's.

<MAP SRC=url SIZE=x,y ACTION=url>
<RECTANGLE POS=x1,y1,x2,y2> <A HREF=url> blah </A> </RECTANGLE>
<CIRCLE POS=x,y,rx,ry> <A HREF=url> blah </A> </CIRCLE>
<POLYGON POS=x1,y1,x2,y2,...> <A HREF=url> blah </A> </POLYGON>
</MAP>

--- Images: Don't cache if requested.

<IMG SRC=url SIZE=x,y ALIGN=imgalign ALT=text NOCACHE ISMAP>

--- Unordered Lists: Bullets can be replaced by gifs or text (all or some).

<UL SRC=url ALT=text CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>
<LI SRC=url ALT=text CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET> blah </LI>
...
</UL>

--- Ordered Lists: Numbers, Letters and Roman.

<OL TYPE=type CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>
<LI TYPE=type CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET> blah </LI>
...
</OL>

--- Horizontal Rule: Can be replaced by a gif or text.

<HR SRC=url ALT=text CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET>

--- Tables:

<TABLE ALIGN=align INDENT=indent COLOR=color BORDER=color
FRAME=frame LINE=frame SIZE=size SET>
<ROW NUMBER=number> blah <COL NUMBER=number> blah ... </ROW>
</TABLE>

--- Columns: Useful for long lists of small words or url's.

<COLUMNS NUMBER=number BORDER=color LINE=frame> blahblah </COLUMNS>

--- Boxes: Surround text with a frame and/or change background's color.

<BOX COLOR=color BORDER=color FRAME=frame SET> blahblah </BOX>

--- Font attributes:

<FONT CHAR=fontname COLOR=color SIZE=size SET> blah </FONT>

--- ...

align: LEFT | CENTER | RIGHT | JUSTIFY
imgalign: TOP | MIDDLE | BOTTOM | FLUSH
indent: LEFT | NONE | RIGHT

*NOTE*:

I'm just showing what is happening with HTML, as long as individual
browser developers continues intruducing their own extensions.
(Note that some of this conflicts with MCOM's)

Some of this are real good ideas for HTML 3.0 and were collected
from these newsgroups or created/modified by me.

Others are just garbage and bandwidth waste.

The main idea of HTML is to let the browser do the dirty work (text
formating). Your work is just to provide the text and images.

THE MORAL IS:

Don't put cream, chocolate and peanuts into your HTML document,
or you will have to mix them all in your document to allow every
browser in the world to bring what you want.

ALSO (QUESTION):

When will be approved HTML+ and new HTML extensions, so old and new
developers of browsers and editors can do the same thing???
Next year will be late!!! Any DTD??? Which one???

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well, sorry for being long and aggressive... I'm quite anxious ;-)

Give me your comments, and I will post a conclusion.

Thanks... Bye... ++Vitoco
