Printing too wide .gif images under any browser

Here is my problem:

When I want to print .htm files under any browser (ex:MS I.E
3.02,Netscape 3.0) which include .gif images which size is too wide ,my
images are cut.

But the browser does it well when my images have a too high size:
the printing is cut through 2 or more pages.
Why doesn't it work in the same way for the width ?

I know that a solution is to print these images through an image
viewer such as ACDSee32 which resize my images before printing but
the quality is poor and it restrains me to pay for a software
only to do that...

How can my problem be solved (plug-in, freeware ...) ?
