Alternative style sheets & Internet Explorer

Alternative style sheets
<LINK rel="alternate stylesheet" ...>
were already defined in HTML 4 and CSS 1.

Finally, Internet Explorer (v. 8 & 9) recognizes them.

Here are two sample pages with alternative style sheets:

http://www.user.uni-hannover.de/nhtcapri/combining-marks.html

However, I couldn't persuade Internet Explorer to apply
these alternative style sheets for *printing*.
Did I overlook something?
Or is this a general severe bug in IE 8 and 9?
