I have just switched to Debian Iceweasel 4.0, which is a derivative of
Mozilla Firefox.

On my old browser, Debian Iceape, a derivative of Mozilla Browser and
Composer, there were several options under the tools menu as follows:

Cookie Manager
Image Manager
Popup Manager
Password Manager

These provided a load of submenus, that give allow me to block or allow
images from particular sites, etc.

How do I access these facilities in the new browser?

Through the Preferences menu. Cookies and passwords would be under security
or privacy. You can right-click on an image and choose "block images
from this site".

I found the image manager preferences as follows:

Menu, Edit, Preferences, Icon: Content, Frame> Load images automatically,
Button: Exceptions

The cookie manager appears to be missing. I found an option to delete
cookies altogether using:

Menu, Edit, Preferences, Icon: Privacy, Link: remove individual cookies.

However, this does not provide site by site cookie management preferences.

On the older browser, I had a Cookie Sites tab that provided the facility
to block or allow cookies for each individual site, and I could
interactively add and remove sites from the cookie preferences list.

Yeah. I don't have the facilities that the manual says. There are no
checkboxes on this version of the browser. Either the documentation is
out of date, or the browser has somehow become broken.

Admittedly, I'm not familiar with Iceweasel - I use Firefox. However, my
reading indicates this particular part should be the same. When you go
to Edit, Preferences, Privacy, at the top do you see a heading marked
"History" with a drop-down menu that says, "Remember History?"

If you do, drop that menu down and at the bottom you should see "Use
custom settings." Select that and the settings you want should appear.
There's another drop-down menu under "Cookies" and "Keep until" with an
"Ask every time" option that should give you the setting you seek.

Which version of Firefox do you have? Mine is 3.6.16 for Ubuntu. In the
Preferences > Privacy screen, there is a choice: "Remember history",
"Never remember history", or "Use custom settings for history". The
checkboxes only appear if you select "Use custom settings".

Are there no addons for Iceweasel? Being a derivative of Firefox,
would FF addons work? If so, why not get a cookie manager addon and be
done with it. There are several in FF that would do what you want and
more.

Iceweasel is Firefox. Anything that works with one works with the
other. The only difference is the name.
