Hosting an Domain Name

I own a domain name but I don't really trust another company hosting it
due to the fact that one of my partners has lost his entire site when
their server crashed due to a hacker. I was wondering if there is anyway
to host my own DN, and what i would need to do it with. Thanx

I'm just an ignorant bystander, but couldn't a crash happen even on your own
machine? Don't you have to keep your own files on backup no matter what?

Yes you can host your own domain name. If you have a few bucks for some
software, hardware, someone to baby sit it 24/7, T1 or T3 line.

Most host sites do back-ups on a regular schedule. If you want to host your
own domain go for it, I just don't see a benifit if all you're worried about
is being hacked. Your personal backups are as good as your host site's
backups.

You make "hard copy back ups on zip and cd"? What, you print them out
and then scan them back in to be stored as image files on zip disks and
CD-ROMs? What's the point in that?

Or do you just not know what a "hard copy" is?
