The First International Exhibit of Technologies and Applications
of Multimedia was held in Beijing in 1994, and drew 30,000
multimedia professionals from industry, government and academia.
The 1996 convention is sponsored by China9s State Economic and
Trade Commission, the government body responsible for forming
business, trade and economic policies at the highest level.

The market for multimedia technology in China is growing very
rapidly. Because of its significant educational potential, the
development of CD-ROM and on-line multimedia has been given a
high priority by the Chinese government. Several important
contracts have recently been signed to bolster the Internet
infrastructure in China. Businesses are rapidly connecting to
the Internet and constructing World-Wide Web sites. Sales of
multimedia PC9s and CD-ROM titles, both to businesses and
consumers, are booming.

Multimedia'96/China is organized by Guoxin Information Corp. of
China, one of the largest information and consulting companies
in China, Legend Group, one of China9s biggest computer
manufacturers, Beijing Golden Disc Electronic Ltd., a Chinese
multimedia pioneer and Neu-Alpine, a new force in the Chinese
software industry. Co-organizers include most of China9s top
computer publications. CDM'96 will produce a CD-ROM, containing
the text of seminars and presentations, and product information
from all exhibiting and contributing organizations.

Seventh Wave, a Los Angeles multimedia publishing company, is
the U.S. agent for Multimedia'96/China. Seventh Wave is
organizing a series of seminars highlighting the U.S and
Canadian multimedia industry at the conference.
