My first Intranet Enterprise Portal - HELP needed

Can anyone point me to best practices; FAQs; tips and tricks; how-
to's; and general resources, and links related to building an intranet
enterprise/corporate portal.

I am a software/web architect developer (MIcrosoft) in a new analyst
management role, tasked with helping to design and build a corporate-
wide intranet portal.

We are an interactive digital media/ad agency with departments:
create, client services, I.T. (tech), etc. The portal will cover
communication, and content and all the basic portal features and
functions across all the departments of the company.

Hi Fred,

Have you considered simply subscribing to an out-of-the-box and ready
to use Intranet? You'll probably get far more for far less, in a much
quicker period of time (immediate) and you wouldn't even have to
support it. In this day and age many companies realize that they
can't compete with specialists that focus on them, full time, and are
simply subscribing to them to save themselves the headaches of
building and managing it all, themselves, especially since corporate
Intranets are becoming very elaborate distributed applications that
allow for all forms of operational solutions, collaboration, Business
Intelligence and Reporting, etc.
