Hello all,

I've added a proper submission form to the OGUP project. Any
new/unknown server is welcome to be added there so OGUP monitors and
includes it into the list of known gopher nodes.

Is YOUR gopher server referenced already? :-)

The Illustrious Members of the Usenet news group comp.infosystems.gopher are invited to read and eventually comment (preferably in that order) the History of the Gopher Protocol, with an addendum on the Gemini and Spartan Protocols. The essay is available from the server of the Midnight Pub and can be accessed from a Gemini client or also from a World Wide Web client at the Uniform Resource Locators:

gemini://cssdixieland.midnight.pub/cssdixieland_gopher.gmi

https://cssdixieland.midnight.pub/cssdixieland_gopher.gmi

The document is in Gemtext and with the suffix type extension '.gmi' in both protocols, not '.htm' or '.html' for the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The host server converts it to a simple form of Hyper Text Mark-up Language for presentation via Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.

The Web hyper link uses secure encryption via TLS. It can be accessed by entering the non-secure http:// protocol prefix, but the host server will automatically switch to https:// (unfortunately for those readers who lack a Web client for the secure version of HTTP).

And also unfortunately, there seems to be no Gopher server available from the Midnight Pub. The parent host, Midnight City, has another service called Smol Pub that makes a Gemtext document available via Gemini, Gopher and World Wide Web Protocols, but it is intended for small entries of the kind known as Gemini logs, Gopher logs or also Web logs (gemlogs, glogs, phlogs, blogs), not for extense documents like the one presented hence.

The Gemini version is a modification of an original page in a World Wide Web document, adding information on the recent Gemini and Spartan Protocols. The said World Wide Web document has several pages, that page can be consulted at the Uniform Resource Locator (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure):

Years ago Monsieur Mateusz Viste read that historical Gopher essay and highly praised it.

This information, unfortunately, cannot be sent directly from a client for News Network Transfer Protocol, for the very simple reason that no reliable client seems to exist for the Apple IPad that is being used. There are three clients for Apple IPad, but none of them seems good for the purpose. Therefore, the Google Groups Web to NNTP gateway has to be used. Some people do not like it, but there is no other solution available at the moment.
