I am currently a meteorologist taking some GIS courses as I am interested
in getting into the GIS utilizing my weather background/experience. Of the
various groups and people who post messages on GIS-L (of which I have
learned a lot from!) I have a particular interest in the emergency
management divisions and FEMA. I am not sure of how these groups are
organized. Is FEMA related or part of state emergency management divisions?
Are there several levels of emergency management?
My interest stems from the work done during weather disasters (i.e.
Hurricane Andrew and the Floods of 93 - both of which I had the
fortune? (maybe should say experience) of forecasting) that have
occurred over the last couple of years. Interesting how GIS was used
in those events.
I would greatly appreciate any insight from the various members of
FEMA, various Emergency Management Division officials, etc on this
question. Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Daniel Dix
