If you work with DELPHI, there is a very good source for shapefiles. Look at
Ecological Software Solutions
(http://www.ecostats.com/software/shapeviewer/svobjectsdelphi.htm), they
have the source-code for a basic GIS in Delphi 5.(about 1,5 MB).
It also works with Delphi 4 if you make some changes. You can write and read
shp-files (point, line, polygon) and also read MIF.

when i open the generated shape-files in arcview, i get the message
(translated) "count of shapes dos'nt match the count of table-entries" when
i open the dbase-file i only see fields generated but no records.

The compiler in D6 and D7 is more forgiving on small errors !
