I have the ASUS V9520/TB GeForce Fx5200 video card and downloaded the latest driver from the ASUS site. I then
Unfortunately I selected too high a resolution by mistake and no when it
boots up the display says the video mode is nbot supported.
Escape, Alt, Ctl, Del does not get me out of this.
I even took the video card out and re-inserted it. No difference. HOW can I
get to change the resolution downwards now?

So how do I proceed now?
Also, when I go to Ctl. panel and Display, I see there only Themes, nothing
else. Nothing to change resolution etc etc.

Just a note, when you change a resolution to something unsupported, just
wait 15 seconds and it should revert back.

That is also now the only way where I can change the resolution, change
screen saver, set background etc.
I used to be able to do that in Normal mode in the Control Panel and then
Display. Not now. ONLY Themes that I can see there now in Normal mode. How
can that be?
Also, when I installed the new NVDA driver it installed without a hitch but
it never came to a screen for Resolution settings, it just came to Finish
very quickly and then gave 2 options, Restart now or Restart later.

If that link doesn't work, it is #285 on the right hand side of
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Also, I would suggest doing the following to clean up the system.
Try running this:
http://rudz.frac.dk/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=2&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
This will remove all Detonator/ForceWare drivers. Now try installing
the latest drivers from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.76
I REALLY do appreciate your effort to help and sort this thing out.
I am familiar with Kelly, but I did go there and the other sites you gave. I
executed the various commands including the Nasty File Remover and deleted
all files from NVDA and the re-installed the latest NVDA file. All works,
BUT and this is still the but :
1. The Display in Control Panel under Normal Mode still shows ONLY Themes.
Nothing else.
2. The re-installation of the latest downloaded NVDA file for windows xp
installs ok but never allows resolution change. I had to do that under Safe
Mode, somewhat cumbersome.
I just do not understand why the Control Panel and Display do not show all
the other tabs like Background, Screensaver, Resolution etc etc.like they
used to for years under XP and before that ME and then win 98 even 95.

If that doesn't work, try doing a repair installation by booting off
your Windows XP CD, choose to Install, it should search and find your
existing installation and offer to repair it, press R to repair, and it
should be fixed after that.
Hopefully one of these two work for you. I would much prefer the first
one be it :)
I tried all the things you mentioned, none worked. Even 2 re-installs over
the existing winxp did not work, because at the end, when all things went
smoothly, it would boot up and a "stupid" little window would circle on the
screen saying this resolution not supported.
There was NO way to stop it or get out of it. No Esc, no Alt, ctl, del.
Nothing. No shutdown and re-boot. Always the same stupid advice and none of
the F keys would bring up a Help screen.
I just had no other choice but try a 3rd installation and this time it all
worked. WHY -- only the good Lord knows. Nothing was changed, all was done
as before. All of a sudden I could get to Control Panel and select all the
previously missing Tabs and set resolution.
Again, Nathan, you were just great and I thank you for standing by.
Regards
Karl

This whole thing is jsut one of the many reasons it is a good idea to
keep current backups of all your files. I usually recommend Norton
Ghost, but it hasn't worked on my new computer with SATA, so I have
started to lost faith in it a bit. I would look at buying a nice Hard
Drive Imaging software program though. I picked up Norton Ghost for $20
after a Mail in Rebate, so it isn't really that expensive either.
Thanks for following up and letting use know how it turned out and how
you got it working :)
