I want some kind of small home office phone system
(SOHO)..... for use in my house.

I was at Best Buy the other day and saw this on the
shelf.

http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11065993&m=887&cat=888&scat=891

Anyone have experience with it?

Or can recommend something else but with same
features..... 2 line...corldess phone option... built
in answering machine?

Careful. I just checked the distributor's site on that and it indicates the
part (KX-TG2000B) is discontinued. It is *possible* that only the
distributor is discontinuing the product, but this particular outfit doesn't
often drop popular stuff from Panasonic.

There is a phone available called CyberGenie that may suit your needs. It
uses the PC to integrate voicemail, email and phone contacts (MS Outlook)
and it expands upto 10 cordless handsets. The only hangup I guess is that
the company that made it no longer exists but there is a core usergroup that
may be able to answer any qustions you might have.

The address is www.cygnion.org

A flash demo is at www.cygnion.net

There is a discussion going on right now about how to get these phones to
operate more efficiently with a dedicated unit. Its probably the best Idea I
can come up with. Do you have a box and some computer parts around the house
you can setup with this? When all is said and done it runs like a charm.

I thought you might think this interesting.
I used a Pentium based 133Mhz with only 32RAM using power settings for
"always" on. No other programs like outlook were required for my needs and
it works great.
Basically I use this PC for CyberGenie only, and there is hardly
anything else installed on the small hard drive (Western Digital 1083MB).
The PC costs me virtually nothing since the prior owners did a
barebones upgrade using some of the parts from their old machine. (floppy,
cdrom, harddrive)
I found sold old used stuff laying around and threw it all together.
Total cost for PC? $0.00 :-)

I have a couple spare computers and i was going to put the CG on a
P3-800 with 768mb ram and a 3gig hard drive. this was running my email
server so i didnt want to format it yet.

i looked in the corner of my room and saw and old packard bell Pentium
150 with 24mb of ram. i was like .. what the hay .. can always try it...

installed win98se, outlook2000 and then CG's 2.0 software.
i have tested transfers , voice recog, voice mail, email, i have not
played with faxing (i dont need it)

its actually running great, its pausing when doing some commands but
i think thats because its low on ram and i hear the drive access, i will add
more ram and keep people updated.

Hmmmm...... no I don't have an old PC laying around

But.... that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good excuse
to get another PC tho. HAHA

Serioully....I will join the CyberGenie Yahoo group and
follow it a bit.... see what they say.

Thanks!!
